    About 1865 it was converted to a hospital.
    In addition to records kept by the workhouse itself, separate records of Roman Catholic Baptisms there were kept by St Cuthbert's church.
    A note in the RC Baptisms register for 1880-1923 contains a note that the hospital was used for soldiers during the Great War.
    According to the note, the last birth on the premises prior to that was on April 29th 1916 and the first on reopening was on January 20th 1920.
