The township and parish of Flixton is approximately 8 miles south-west of Manchester city centre. The main occupation in the early 19th century was cotton weaving which took place in almost every cottage and farm house. Although the area was mainly agricultural, (with crops of wheat, oats, potatos and market produce), the weaving provided much needed extra income. |
