Droylsden is a small town in the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside, although historically it was a chapelry in the parish of Manchester. It was one of the many mill towns that developed in this area in the mid 19th century.
The Fairfield area of Droylsden has been home to a Moravian community since 1785. Many of the houses in this community are now listed buildings.
Robertson's Jam factory was established in Droylsden in 1891, on the banks of the Ashton Canal.
