St John the Evangelist, Worsthorne St John the Evangelist, Worsthorne

St John’s is a benefice in patronage of the Hulme Trustees. The foundation stone was laid on 11th September 1834 and slightly over a year later the finished church was consecrated by the Bishop of Chester on 20th September 1835. The church sits on the site of Worsthorne Village Green and covers 2,435 square yards.

A new tower, with a height of 61 feet, was built in August 1903, provided by Sir John O. S. Thursby in memory of his father. Dedication of the tower took place 11 July 1904 and later that year a clock was installed at a cost of £78.
