St Peter’s church is a large gothic building on a roundabout in the West End of Ashton. It is one of the “Waterloo” churches which were built after Napoleon’s defeat in 1815. It was consecrated in 1824. Rev W B Kirk, the incumbent from 1882 to 1900, wrote a poem 23 pages long in praise of St Peter’s and its parishoners. |
