Volunteering with Lancashire Online Parish Clerks

All of the information on this site is collected and transcribed by volunteers. We welcome offers of help from those who visit our site and who would like to join in this exciting project. Opportunities will vary from time to time, but may include transcribing Lancashire parish records, taking photographs of churches or registers, and helping to collect other material such as historical data. Occasionally, we also need specialist help.

The links below will give you more information about each role. After reading this, if you wish to register your interest, please send an email using this link. If the link does not work correctly, or if you have not received an acknowledgement within two weeks, please see our FAQ section for an alternative contact address.

Please note that for some roles we may not be able to offer you an assignment straight away but we will contact you when something suitable is available.

If you have a parish or area of special interest, by all means let us know, but please be aware that there are some areas for which it is difficult for us to obtain the source material and necessary permissions – this is a complex process involving negotiations with record owners, record offices and others. This is the main reason for gaps on the website, rather than a shortage of transcribers or photographers!

We cannot usually accept private transcriptions for publication on our website, for a number of reasons, so please do not send us your own material; if you have any queries about this, please contact us (see FAQ for our general contact address).
